My Planned Parenthood

Wedding

There was a time while I was in college that I didn’t have medical insurance. I was too old to be on my parent’s insurance, I only had a part-time job, and there was no way I could afford to buy my own. My mother always pressed upon me how important it was to see a doctor at least once a year, if not purely for blood screenings – then for my feminine health (a.k.a. the Pap test). My first year without coverage was coming to a close and I knew I needed to see someone for my yearly, but who could I turn to?

Well… I turned to Planned Parenthood.

I didn’t know what they could do to help me, but I made an appointment and hoped for the best. Luckily, with Planned Parenthood, I could get my yearly check-up for free. I could also obtain birth control for free. I remember feeling unbelievably relieved that I had a place to go for my reproductive health and general well-being. While I continued to finish my bachelor’s degree, I visited Planned Parenthood for two more years. Each time, I was completely covered for my yearly check-up and birth control. I would also add that I felt like the doctors and nurses were truly vested in my health, genuinely discussing preventative and general health care options with me.

I am fortunate I can now afford my own medical insurance, and thus I can see my primary physician as needed. But when I had no insurance and very limited resources – Planned Parenthood cared and provided the tools and education to help me live better and healthier.

Thank you Planned Parenthood.
